Cabernet vine

With the Cabernet Franc, as their common ancestor resides under the name of Cabernet a family of vine varieties, among the most abundant in the world:
Namely, in rough alphabetical order , it can be found:
  • White Cabernet in Belgium, Netherlands, Germany & Austria
  • Cabernet-Cantor in Germany, Switzerland, Benelux, Lithuania & Poland
  • Cabernet-Carbon in Germany, Benelux, Switzerland, Italy & Romania
  • Cabernet-Carol in Denmark, Benelux, Switzerland & États Unis
  • Cabernet-Cortis in Denmark, Benelux & Switzerland
  • Cabernet-Cubin in Germany, Italy & U.K.
  • Cabernet-Dorio in Germany, Belgium & Switzerland
  • Cabernet-Dorsa in Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Czech Rep. & USA
  • Cabernet-Jura in Germany, Belgium & Switzerland
  • Cabernet-Mitos in Germany & en Suisse
  • Cabernet-Severnyi in Canada, USA, Russia & East- European countries

All these varieties being little known or virtually unknown in France.
Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, remain the beacons of the Bordeaux grape varieties, they are also present Southwest of France and in the Loire Valley.
Consequence of this fame, they have become the most common grape varieties of the world. They are now cultivated in most wine producing countries under a variety of climates ranging from Canada to Lebanon. Today, Cabernet Sauvignon remains the most widely planted grape of the world (6.3% of the areas ), just before Merlot (5.8%) and Chardonnay (4.3%)
